Michigan state forest campgrounds are some of the finest camping facilities in the Midwest United states. These family-friendly parks offer activities such as hiking, swimming, fishing, rustic sites, boating, hunting, mountain biking and much more. Most are pet-friendly, definitely couple friendly, and exhibit a charm and hospitality which will make you keep coming back for holiday year on year.

There could be over 140 campgrounds in Michigan. Many of the most country campgrounds are found in the Higher Headland, while newer campgrounds are found in the Lower Headland ( glove ). Michigan state forest campgrounds are very in depth, covering about 4,000,000 acres of state forest land. Most campgrounds are situated on lakes or streams, making them great locales for boating and fishing. Some campsites are so remote that you've got to access them by hiking through woods, or by cruising across a river.

One great modern campground in the Lower Peninsula ( glove ) is Highland Recreation Area. It offers 5,900 acres of forest, marshes and lakes within its mountainous landscape. There are trails for equestrian riders, hikers and skiers and mountain bikers. There's an activity for each season in this park. Activities include cruising, fishing, hunting, mountain biking, swimming, cross country skiing, hiking, metal spotting, snow-mobiling and wildlife watching. Facilities include cabins and lodges with electricity and modern loos, a beach house, equestrian and picnic shelters, picnic areas and a dog trial area. Never forget to try the Crown V Ranch, the Highland Recreation Area riding stable.

One of the oldest state parks in the Higher Promontory is Brimley State Park. It is situated along the attractive shore of Whitefish Bay on Lake Superior. Activities include fishing, hiking, hunting, metal identifying, swimming and it is part of the Michigan State Park Explorer programme. Facilities include Mini-Cabins with electrical service and modern toilet, a beach house, picnic shelter, picnic area and playground. In the local area simply a short drive from the park are other attractions eg the Tahquamenon Falls, 2 countrywide fish hatcheries, the Hiawatha Countrywide Forest, Mackinac Island State Park, the Tower of History, the Museum of Ship Valley Camp, the Soo Locks, the Coast Guard Station, the World Bridge and the Mackinac Bridge.

On the acute eastern side of the Upper Headland is the country Lime Island State Forest Campground in Chippewa County. Visitors to Lime Island must take a boat three miles across the St. Mary's Brook. Parking for automobiles is available inland at the town of Raber. Using a non-motorized ship to cross the St. Mary's Brook is not recommended. Activities include fishing, hiking and swimming. Facilities include cottages with 2 to three bedrooms that can accomodate up to 8 folks, with some electrical capacities produced by solar energy panels in the roof. Water and compact bath rooms are handily found nearby. Tent camping is available using wooden platforms to reduce the impact on the encircling environment. This is a place where you can get back to the faster pleasures in life.
