Michigan state forest campgrounds are a few of the finest camping facilities in the Midwest United states. These family-friendly parks offer activities such as hiking, swimming, fishing, country sites, sailing, hunting, mountain biking and masses more. There are more than 140 campgrounds in Michigan. Plenty of the most rustic campgrounds are found in the Higher Spur, while more contemporary campgrounds are found in the Lower Promontory ( glove ). Michigan state forest campgrounds are very intensive, covering just about 4,000,000 acres of state forest land. Most campgrounds are located on lakes or brooks, making them great locales for sailing and fishing. Some campsites are so remote that you've got to access them by hiking thru woods, or by sailing across a stream.

One great modern campground in the Lower Cape ( glove ) is Highland Recreation Area. It offers 5,900 acres of forest, marshes and lakes within its mountainous landscape. There are trails for equestrian riders, walkers and skiers and mountain bikers. There is an activity for every season in this park. Activities include boating, fishing, hunting, trail cycling, swimming, cross country skiing, hiking, metal finding, snow-mobiling and wildlife watching. Facilities include cabins and lodges with electricity and modern bathrooms, a beach house, equestrian and picnic shelters, picnic areas and a dog trial area. Remember to take a look at the Crown V Ranch, the Highland Recreation Area riding stable.

One of the oldest state parks in the Higher Promontory is Brimley State Park. It is situated along the attractive shore of Whitefish Bay on Lake Superior. Activities include fishing, hiking, hunting, metal spotting, swimming and it is part of the Michigan State Park Explorer program. Facilities include Mini-Cabins with electrical service and modern toilet, a beach house, picnic shelter, picnic area and playground. In the neighborhood simply a short drive from the park are other attractions e. G the Tahquamenon Falls, two national fish hatcheries, the Hiawatha State Forest, Mackinac Island State Park, the Tower of History, the Museum of Ship Valley Camp, the Soo Locks, the Coast Guard Station, the World Bridge and the Mackinac Bridge.

On the extreme eastern side of the Upper Peninsula is the rustic Lime Island State Forest Campground in Chippewa County. Visitors to Lime Island must take a boat three miles across the St. Mary's Stream. Parking for vehicles is available inland at the city of Raber. Using a non-motorized boat to cross the St. Mary's River isn't endorsed. Activities include fishing, hiking and swimming. Facilities include cottages with two to 3 bedrooms that may accomodate up to 8 people, with little electrical capabilities produced by solar energy panels in the roof. Water and portable bath rooms are conveniently found close by. Tent camping is available using wooden platforms to scale back the effect on the surrounding environment. This is a place you can get back to the easier pleasures in life.
